Bolero Jacket

Bolero Jacket

Years ago, I stumbled upon a great deal on a navy blue velvet and brocade bolero style jacket. It is a statement piece and looks just as lovely with jeans  as it does a circle skirt.

From a color psychology perspective, blue is reliable and responsible. This color exhibits an inner security and confidence.  It is considered a corporate color - think the power suit. I believe this jacket is playful and gives a sense of whimsy to classic navy blue.

The next time you have to make a presentation or speak in front of a group of people you might want to know, Blue is the color associated with the Throat Chakra. This chakra deals with communication of how we feel and what we think.

I feel special when I wear this piece.  It is a conversation starter type of item, I often receive complements when I wear the jacket. The thing I love most is that I paid $11.99 for it!
It's good to experiment with color. Stop and check yourself to see what your mood reveals. Remember to have fun when you put your sense of style together!

Burgundy

Burgundy

Color is a non-verbal form of communication and I am fascinated with the psychology of it and the role it plays in our lives. Corporate American spends billions of dollars testing colors. Color can boost your mood, give you an edge and lend itself to a sense of authority.

Burgundy gives an air of sophistication.  It is the color of wealth, success, prosperity and elegance.  This hottest of colors this season works for every skin tone.

  • It’s fabulous with gray,
  • a classic with navy
  • and on trend paired with mustard

A blend of red, associated with the root chakra and purple connected to the crown chakra and the higher knowing of “self.”

My go to color

My go to color

My go to color is black. Black is a neutral, its slenderizing and goes with just about anything. Black is a power color and adds a twist of mystery. It’s a classic and suggests sophistication.

Black absorbs negative energy. Just be careful not to overdo wearing black because too much black can be a bit depressing. Think about using some color to brighten its energy.

A Cute Striped Jacket

A Cute Striped Jacket

I wasn’t sure what to wear to work this morning, and then I decided it would be the perfect day for a cute striped jacket and boots.

Red is a warm and positive color associated
with enhancing love, passion and increasing motivation.
It is a power color and in Eastern cultures such as
China Red is the color of good luck.

A Yellow State of Mind

A Yellow State of Mind!

Color can do amazing things for a girl! It can highlight your skin tones, lift your mood and even make your baby blues more defined. Today I was feeling Yellow! The wearing of this unexpected color can be a little tricky so it's important to pick the right hue and pair it with the perfect complimentary colors.

Yellow is the color of sunshine. It's associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy. Yellow is the best color to create enthusiasm for life and can awaken greater confidence and optimism. Yellow is a spontaneous color and unexpected. Its effective for attracting attention.

Yellow reminds me sunflowers fields, which immediately makes me smile. Sunflowers exude happy, so if you ever get down in the dumps treat yourself to some sunflowers to lift your spirits. You’ll feel your mood lift quickly!

Sunflowers make me smile almost as much as my animal print boots!

Inspiration

Inspiration

Where do you get your style inspiration? I am a self-admitted magazine-aholic. I enjoy nothing more than sitting with a cup of green tea and pursuing over my favorite magazines!

Today I would like to share a little inspiration I received from the November 2013 edition of HGTV Magazine. It all started with the photo featuring a beautiful geranium red chest and  a yellow chevron pillow.

Months ago I purchased a duvet cover from Pottery Barn. It was on clearance and I received a smoking deal on it. But somehow when I got it home I could not quite get it right, until I saw the red and yellow color combination used in the magazine.  Bells rung in my head as I remembered tucked away in a closet were two beautiful red toile pillows and a red velvet quilt from years gone by.  The items no longer worked into my color scheme and I tucked them away for safe keeping.

Initially, I wondered if it would look a little like McDonald’s. But then I put it together and realized IT WORKS! Tis the season for red. The color is warm, rich and inviting.

The red velvet throw is from Christmas past, and would adorn a chair in the living room for the holidays.  The script pillow is a Homegoods find that was already at home on my bed. I think the red makes it pop.
My question to you is where do you find your style inspiration?

Polka Dots and a Jean Jacket

Polka Dots and a Jean Jacket

The cool weather's chill is perfect boot weather, and it is a short season in Arizona.  So I like to take every opportunity to wear them.

I only wish you could see
what I see when I look at you.

The Little Black Dress

The Little Black Dress

The holidays have arrived! Which means more opportunities to deck your halls and FA LA LA. It is that special time of year to shine! No need to stress about what to wear to your social soirees, dinners and holiday get-togethers. You have got this covered with the little black dress!

One of the best investments a woman can purchase is the LBD! I have a variety of them in my closet. I just can't help myself. You can wear them to everything, and with a quick change of shoes and accessories, you have a completely new look. No one will realize you have worn the same dress twice or thrice in a season.

In the summer, I wear this LBD as a sundress and pair it with cute sandals. For work, I add a cute polka dot blouse, sling back pumps and a flash of color with a red belt.

I found this dress at Target!
Belt - Target
Blouse - Loft (9 years ago)
Slings - DSW
Pearl bracelets - Forever 21

This is my latest favorite LBD! Chanel look chain with pearls and snakeskin look pumps

Dress- Loft (Yes 40% off sale)
Necklace - The Limited (purchased in 1988) - yes I said 1988!
Snakeskin pumps - DSW

To Change the look up I pulled on my favorite boots!

I love this cocktail dress, because it is forgiving. As my weight fluctuates, the dress does too! The dress is comfortable, and I have had the opportunity to wear it to a variety of affairs.

An easy way to switch up a LBD
is your shoes. I think Dorthy would
approve of my red satin shoes.

I had the opportunity to wear these shoes one New Years in New Orleans. I walked the French Quarter under the moonlight. Shoes must be beautiful but they also need to be comfortable.

Another reason I adore this dress is because of the broach. It makes the jewelry decision a breeze! Sexy chandelier earring! Enough said!

Dress - Macys
Earrings- Dillards

I wear these earring with everything from
jeans to black cocktail dresses!

Things to remember

Comfort - because there is no point if you are miserable in it
Style - think timeless (How long will you have this piece)
Fabrics - does it make you feel pretty
Cut - does it fit your frame
Think outside the box be creative

My hope is that some of my ideas inspire you to shop in your closet to pull together some great holiday ideas this season.
